Parma and Vienna 2003
Parma - National Gallery
8 FEBRUARY - 15 MAY 2003

Vienna - Kunsthinstoriches museum
1 JUNE - 14 SEPTEMBER 2003

On the occasion of the V centenary of the birth of Parmigianino (Gerolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, Parma 1503 - Casalmaggiore 1540), Parma will host the first great exhibition dedicated to one of the founders of European Mannerism in the rooms of the National Gallery.
Promoted by the Committee for the celebration of the V centenary of the birth of Parmigianino, the exhibition has been set up by the Service for historic, artistic and demo-ethno-anthropological heritage, in collaboration with the Kunsthinstorisches Museum of Vienna, and with the contribution of the most important scholars of the artist and Mannerism. The works exhibited have been given on loan for the occasion by some of the largest museums in the world.

The exhibition space is divided into seven sections:
"The graphic and pictorial works of Parmigianino"
"Mannerism in Tuscany and Emilia"
"Mannerism in Veneto"
"The Wunderkammer"
"The Parma school in the VXI Century."
"Mannerism in France in the XVI Century."
"Nordic and German Mannerism in the XVI Century."
Altogether, the event offers a programme which is unique in deepening understanding not only the figure of Parmigianino, whose versatile activity defined the Sixteenth century in Parma, but also the culture and the art of the sixteenth century both in Italy and throughout Europe.
