Historical-documentary
exhibition on the occasion of the Parmigianino 2003 celebrations
The Municipal Administration of Fontanellato in collaboration
with the Office of the Superintendent of the Artistic and
Historical Treasures of Parma and Piacenza organizes, in
the Ground floor rooms of the Museum Rocca Sanvitale, a historical-documentary
exhibition to explore the themes of the Room of Diana and
Atteone. The exhibition will be organized in a group of recently
restored rooms adjacent to the Room with the frescoes by
Parmigianino.
A section of the exhibition is devoted to the Sanvitale
dynasty and above all to the history and bond between the
wealthy client and the great artist. In addition, through
an exhibition of paintings, prints and engravings, the show
illustrates the great success of the mythological themes
of the Renaissance that were taken up by many artists starting
with the interpretations of Parmigianino.
The exhibition contains about ten
portraits of members of the Sanvitale family who lived
in the 16th century, and twelve
copies made of Parmigianino’s frescoes by Felice Boselli
in the 17th century, as well as the engravings made of them
by Antonio Bresciani, Paolo Toschi and Luigi Vigotti in later
centuries.
For the occasion, the works have been restored with the
supervision of the Office of the Superintendent.
The exhibition will be endowed with the relative catalogue.
