| Busseto: the restoration |
|
|
The
square open gallery, undergoing completion of restoration,
is defined as buffalora, from the expression "boffa
l'aura" with which Carlo V, on visiting Busseto, remarked
on the cooling sensation experienced walking along it, exposed
to the breezes which blow through openings located on all four
sides. The frescoes were carried out in the second half of the
sixteenth century, and show imaginative decorative elements
("grotesque"), inspired by the mural decorations in
ancient Rome. The magical world re-evoked on the vaults of the
buffalora are composed of festoons, drapes, scrolls, heraldic
emblems, putti and unusual animals.
