Astrology,
cosmology and alchemy.
The zodiac was one of the cultural foundations of the
Renaissance: astrology combined with the interest in the occult,
magic and alchemy. The Renaissance man was strongly linked
to the cosmic models linking the earth to the heavens in one
single body, governed by occult forces which only initiates
were able to decipher: Parmigianino's works were profoundly
influenced by themes of a mystic culture. Pier Maria Rossi's
horoscope, in the Roccabianca room dedicated to a celebration
of the harmonious relationship between Bianca and Pier Maria,
evokes these themes through the suggestion of sounds and images
in movement. The labyrinth of the mystic consciousness is
shown along a narrative route studded with planetary divinities,
astrological doyens and zodiac signs.
