| Zibello: the Noble and the Court |
|
|
Giovan
Francesco Pallavicino (1439-1497). The prestige and revenues
earned as a ducal functionary permitted Giovan Francesco to
undertake considerable works in Zibello, both on an urbanistic
level, with the addition of the village (the districts), and
also on a building level, with the construction of the podesta
palace and the Domenican monasteryu, the reconstruction of the
parish church, the restructuring of the old parish outside the
village (the ghisiola) and the transformation of the fortress
(lost) from military structure to stately residence.Several
members of the Cremonese De Stavolis family worked for Giovan
Francesco, being kilns men who were active throughout the Duchy
of Milan and collaborators of the Filerete. Active in Zibello
with a furnace which belonged to them, they fused the classic
style of the Filarete with the exuberance of the Lombard adorned
Gothic. This gave rise to a particular interpretation of the
Renaissance styles of Tuscan origins.
